The Chautauqua Institution Theater Company
The CTC is composed of professional actors, directors, designers, playwrights, and faculty, as well as up-and-coming actors, directors, and design fellows from across the country. As with everything in the Chautauqua Institution, the goal of the theater is to provide education and entertainment to the public as well as to nurture young talent.
Aside from the Shakespearean classics frequently performed on the stage, CTC also features American classics, like Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Death of a Salesman. If you’d like to see something more contemporary, don’t miss the new play workshops.
Chautauqua Institution Conservatories
The core of the CTC is The Conservatory, a summer theater program that offers 14 actors, four design fellows, and one directing fellow the chance to work in a professional environment. The Conservatory is completely free. The members receive fellowships that include tuition, room, and board. The Chautauqua Theater Company Acting Conservatory is the most popular, with a wide range of applicants. The Acting Conservatory began 30 years ago and is considered one of the premiere summer training ensembles in the country.
