Tennis is one of the first sports played in the Institution, originally introduced by the co-founder Bishop John Vincent in 1878. It was under his instruction that the first lawn tennis court was set up along the lakefront. Since then, the tradition of tennis has been maintained. Continue this time-honored tradition by stopping by the courts. Whether you’re an experienced player or totally new to the game, you’re bound to have a good time!

Visit the Chautauqua Institution Tennis Courts
The Chautauqua Institution Tennis Courts are located just a half-mile from The Spencer Hotel & Spa. The 10-minute walk to the courts is a fantastic warm-up and the weather during the Chautauqua season rarely gets above 80 degrees. The courts are located behind the Turner Community Center.
The full playing season for the tennis courts lasts from May 15 to October 15. The daily court fee is $24 per court hour. If you plan on playing for a little longer, you should definitely sign up for a membership. It includes no daily court fees, complimentary use of the ball machine, discounts on select merchandise, and discounted rates for lessons and tournaments. You can sign up for a membership as an individual or a couple Any youths who are 17 years old or younger are eligible for the junior membership rate.
If you’ve got a junior member on your hands, sign them up for the Youth Tennis Program! It’s for children ages 3 and up and is offered throughout the summer. There are daily lessons with skilled teachers. The classes are broken up by age range and experience, so your child will be matched with some appropriate competition.
